Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Nélson Semedo was on the front page of Monday’s Record as Benfica have set their sights on him.

Tuesday’s edition of Record provides the latest on the Eagles’ intention to sign the right-back in the summer window

The Portugal international’s contract expires in June and his future seems to be away from Wolves.

He had a spell at Benfica in the past and their president, Rui Costa, wants to bring the 31-year-old back to the club.

The Portuguese club’s directors will soon advance discussions with the former Barcelona man. There are multiple factors that make them optimistic that the transfer will happen.

With a contract expiring at the end of this season, the newspaper claims Wolves have no plans to offer a renewal. This is one factor, and the other is to do with his desire to sign for Benfica.

In April 2023, Semedo publicly said he wants to leave the door open to return to Benfica. The newspaper points that out and adds the fullback also mentioned in private that he would like to play for them.

Semedo is aware the summer window could be the ‘right time’ for him to fulfil his dream of playing for Benfica again. The move can see him reunite with former Wolves manager Bruno Lage.
