If there’s one player who thoroughly enjoyed life under José Mourinho and whom the Portuguese manager trusted fully during his time at Chelsea, it’s Kurt Zouma.
Bought during the manager’s second spell at Stamford Bridge, the French defender earned the Special One’s trust in the first half of the 2015-16 season, despite being still rather young.
Sacked in December of 2015, Mourinho has always held the now 26-year-old in high esteem throughout his other jobs, as Zouma was a target of his during his time at both Tottenham and Manchester United.
Now set to take over at AS Roma ahead of the 2021-22 season, the Portuguese wants to bring in some players to improve the squad at his disposal, which includes a centre-back.
Corriere dello Sport look at the players Mourinho could target, with the list including the Chelsea defender.
Eric Dier is also on there, but a recent article from Gazzetta dello Sport seemed to rule out that option, as the Englishman isn’t interested in leaving Tottenham anytime soon.
That’s why Zouma, a regular under Frank Lampard but less so since Thomas Tuchel came in, could be a viable option for Roma, although whether Chelsea would risk facing another Fikayo Tomori situation next season remains to be seen.
