José Mourinho has asked Tottenham Hotspur to make an effort to sign Diego Carlos in the summer.
That’s according to La Razón, who say the Portuguese tactician ‘wants to bring’ the Sevilla defender to the north London club.
In need of strengthening his side’s defence, the former Chelsea manager has turned his attention towards La Liga.
It’s claimed Julen Lopetegui’s side are ‘obliged’ to make a big sale in the next market in order to balance their books. ‘Everything indicates’ Jules Koundé is likely to be sold, but he could stay if Sevilla end up cashing in on the Brazilian’s sale.
The 28-year-old has a €75m release clause and in this case, the Spanish club could negotiate a lower fee with the Premier League side, especially if the latter include Davinson Sánchez as part of the deal.
Sánchez is likely to drop down the pecking order at Spurs if Carlos or another new centre-back arrives at the club next season.
La Razón explain Sevilla would want to take advantage of this to sign the Colombian, to provide cover, if one of their centre-backs ends up leaving the club.
Apart from Sánchez, Feyenoord’s Marcos Senesi can also be a replacement for Carlos.
If Sevilla shift their focus on Senesi, then Mourinho’s side may have to pay Carlos’ €75m release clause or convince his club to lower his price tag.
