Aston Villa director of football Monchi may be doing old rival Real Betis a favour by rejecting Tottenham’s bid for Jacob Ramsey, that included Giovani Lo Celso as part of the operation.
Estadio Deportivo cover the Spanish director today and how his decision to reject Tottenham’s approach for Ramsey may be inadvertently lending a hand to Betis.
Reports in England over the last 24 hours have explained that Aston Villa have rejected an approach from Tottenham for Ramsey that would have seen them paying a fee and including Lo Celso as part of the operation.
Villa are not keen on that and have made it clear their player is not for sale, even if they have held an interest in the Argentine before now.
Their response was to be expected but it also ‘lends a hand’ to Betis in their attempts to sign Lo Celso this summer.
They and the midfielder consider this summer as the ideal opportunity to make their ‘dream’ of reuniting a reality, although it’s been explained from Spain that they’re playing the long game on that front.
There is a belief at the Benito Villamarín that a transfer can only be ‘cooked slowly’ and with patience, as it requires Tottenham to lower their demands and the player to reduce his wage demands.
Tottenham have their own intentions for him but the fact that Aston Villa have rejected their latest attempt to get rid of Lo Celso plays into their hands.
That decision will have come from Monchi who, after two spells at Sevilla, now appears to be doing their rivals a favour by pushing Tottenham away at this stage.
