Aston Villa have identified Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries as their main target to replace Matty Cash, according to Calciomercato.
The 26-year-old was the first-choice right-back for Unai Emery last season, and AC Milan are now looking to sign him in the summer window.
Over the past few days, Milan technical director Geoffrey Moncada met Aston Villa director Monchi for Cash.
The Villans are ready to negotiate a deal for Cash from €20m, but the negotiations with the Serie A side aren’t at an advanced stage yet. The Rossoneri aren’t worried about Aston Villa’s request, but Cash isn’t the only target on their list.
If the discussions between Monchi and Moncada for Cash become concrete, Aston Villa have to find a replacement, and this is where Dumfries fits in. Cash’s exit would see Monchi ‘go all in’ for the Netherlands international.
The 28-year-old’s contract at the San Siro lasts until 2025, and there’s been no progress made for his renewal. Aston Villa have already contacted his agent to find out the conditions needed to sign him.
Aston Villa’s funds will receive a boost after qualifying for the Champions League, and this may help them meet Dumfries’ salary request. The Dutchman doesn’t seem to be keen on leaving, and if there’s an exit, he aims to join a top club.
If there’s a sale, Inter would like to collect €20m for him, a figure that Monchi has asked for Cash.
Calciomercato don’t mention if Aston Villa will push to sign Dumfries if Cash were to continue at Villa Park.
