On June 12th, Mundo Deportivo stated Manchester City’s İlkay Gündoğan was expected to make a decision on Tuesday, over whether to accept the renewal offer or join Barcelona.
That didn’t happen.
The 32-year-old’s deal expires on June 30th and Pep Guardiola is keen to have him at his disposal next season. At the same time, the La Liga side have offered a three-year deal.
Today’s Mundo Deportivo states Manchester City have ‘raised their offer’ to try to convince him to continue at the Etihad.
After initially proposing a one-year deal, it’s claimed they want to convince their star with ‘another bigger proposal’.
The midfielder was integral part of the English club’s treble success last season. He joined the Germany camp earlier this week after finishing celebrations with Guardiola’s side. Mundo say Barca are aware Manchester City have made ‘one last offensive’ to retain him.
Gündoğan wants to assess pros and cons of the offers submitted by [renewal] Manchester City and the Blaugrana. It’s claimed ‘there are moments of suspense’ for both clubs, who are ‘waiting for the final decision’.
Guardiola and his side are putting pressure on him to sign a new deal while Barca hope he ends up at the Camp Nou.
The newspaper’s title says the German international ‘asks for more time’.
Within the report, it’s explained that he contacted Barcelona, through his agent, to ask for a few more days to make a decision on his future.
