On Wednesday, Nottingham Forest made an improved bid for Santiago Giménez, but it was still short of Feyenoord’s asking price.

Earlier today, Voetbal International stated the Dutch club have put an end to the negotiations with the Reds. It was also said the striker wouldn’t be in favour of joining the Premier League side anyway.

Former Dutch footballer, and now well-known pundit in the Netherlands, Johan Derksen isn’t pleased with the 23-year-old’s decision to snub a move to Nottingham Forest.

Speaking to Vandaag Inside, relayed by FCUpdate, Derksen said the player and his agent are making a mistake by overlooking Nuno Espírito Santo’s side. The Dutchman is of the belief the Mexico international is currently not good enough for a top club.

“Giménez, he is making the mistake of his life,” he said.

“He thinks Nottingham Forest is an uninteresting club and wants to go to a bigger club, he is not good enough for that. It’s the chance of a lifetime to play football at the highest level in Europe with Nottingham Forest. He has to grab that with both hands.

“He will earn an insane salary there, five to ten times as much as at Feyenoord. But if he does well, Aston Villa could come for Giménez at some point. Aston Villa will never take him away from Feyenoord on their own, but I think it’s mainly a failing businessman [agent]. That agent should also say: ‘those big clubs, they won’t come for you’.”

The frontman has starred since joining the Eredivisie side in 2022 and won the title with them in his first season. He can play in the Champions League at Feyenoord this season.

Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, can’t offer European football as they were fighting to avoid relegation in the last two seasons.
