Aston Villa director of football Monchi has found himself back in favour in Spain after the Villans qualification for the Champions League.
That’s if the latest from AS is anything to by, as they heap praise on the director today and detail how ‘miracles return’ for the Spaniard.
The newspaper explains that Monchi ‘has been essential’ to Unai Emery’s side reaching Europe’s top table this season, with his tweaks to the team ‘decisive’.
They explain that while Emery has been the leader on the touchline, Monchi’s work in the offices above him has been even more vital.
The changes he made to the squad after arriving last summer were decisive and key to the tremendous success of qualifying for the Champions League 42 years on from the last time.
Players such as Moussa Diaby and Pau Torres have developed considerably while the likes of Clement Lenglet, Youri Tielemans and Nicolo Zaniolo have played their part too.
Then there is the deal to sign Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough in January for €9.4m, which has looked like one of the deals of the year from early on.
And that should lead to an exciting summer for Aston Villa as they build a squad capable of competing in the Champions League and Premier League next season.
With the former in his pocket, AS argue that Monchi and Damiá Vidagany, Villa’s director of operations, have a new tool at their disposal when it comes to getting players to move to Villa Park.
Indeed, they believe the growing contingent of Spanish players at the club could grow and that the offer of Champions League football and the ‘very interesting project’ on offer ‘make it feasible’ for Monchi and his team to secure big name reinforcements.
It’s all very exciting for Aston Villa and indeed Monchi, who seems to have rediscovered the magic touch that made him such a success at Sevilla.
