Liverpool have been linked with AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar by French newspaper L’Equipe. Monaco are set against selling the 21 year old and would rather sell Bernardo Silva this summer, knowing that Lemar’s value will likely rise, but it’s the younger player receiving ‘most concrete expressions of interest’.
To convince Monaco to sell earlier than they would like could cost Liverpool, or anyone else, a great deal, something Manchester United found out when buying Anthony Martial.
A lot could depend on how much Bernardo Silva interest turns into something real. Silva is still only 22 years of age but he’s impressed enough to already be worth a big transfer fee, and Monaco would be eyeing that, rather than selling Lemar low and then letting someone else make a profit in the future.
There’s no intention from Monaco to sell players and then have other coaches, such as Jurgen Klopp, work their magic and make their club a fortune.
Lemar plays primarily on the left for Monaco, whereas Silva is on the right.
