Earlier this summer we covered claims from French newspaper L’Equipe, which said Middlesbrough were interested in signing Clement Grenier from Lyon.
Middlesbrough had ‘expressed their desire’ to sign the midfielder, whilst Arsenal and Tottenham had snubbed the chance of a transfer. Arsenal have been linked with Grenier for years, but a deal never really got off the ground and it appears that ship has sailed for the 25 year old.
In their Tuesday edition, L’Equipe report that Middlesbrough have approached Grenier, although they don’t make it absolutely clear when that was. If it was back in May, then they’re sure waiting an awful long time to get an answer from the player.
Serie A clubs AC Milan and Torino are also said to have approached the player, who despite earlier complaining he hadn’t been allowed to leave, is now considering staying at the club for another year.
Grenier isn’t first choice, L’Equipe say he’s slipped down the pecking order, but he’s on good wages.
His injury record may well have been enough to put several clubs off.
