As you might have heard, Manchester United’s Victor Lindelöf will remain as Sweden captain after Jon Dahl Tomasson announced there would be no changes.
There had been a lot of speculation that the new manager could make changes in the hierarchy, and he refused to give any indication of his choice in the early days after his appointment.
Ultimately, he chose to keep the Manchester United player at the helm, which Lindelöf has now announced was never really in doubt in quotes relayed by Fotbollskanalen.
He said: “We met in Manchester for the first time. We say down and went through quite a bit. Many different things. What he expects, what I expect, what we can change and what we can improve. We had a good talk. It’s great that I’ve been entrusted to be captain again. It’s something I take very seriously.”
Asked if there had been any doubt in his mind over whether he wanted to continue as captain for his national team, the Manchester United was quick to answer.
He added: “No, there really wasn’t. Obviously when I became captain, I had a little bit more difficulty, but I feel I can take a lot of responsibility and I want to. I want to try and get us back to the level we should be at. I want to be part of the journey back.”
The Manchester United defender was first given the armband by previous manager Janne Andersson after Andreas Granqvist left the national team.
He has 64 caps for his country since making his debut back in 2016, which was a year before he signed for the Red Devils in a €35m transfer from Benfica.
