Denmark’s Rasmus Højlund has told Bold that he doesn’t want Manchester United to decide his game time with the national team this month.
A muscle injury forced the striker to spend close to a month on the sidelines before returning to the pitch in the Red Devils’ FA Cup win over Liverpool last weekend.
Manchester United won the cup tie in extra time and he was on the pitch for 71 minutes at Old Trafford.
Denmark will face Switzerland and Faroe Islands in friendlies in this international break and manager Kasper Hjulmand hasn’t yet made it clear how long the 21-year-old will be on the pitch during these two fixtures.
The former Atalanta man has insisted that he’s ready to play 90 minutes if required.
“I’m ready, so if the coach wants me to play 90, I’ll do it. There was a plan for me not to play more than 70 this weekend and that was why I was taken out there,” he said.
The frontman is aware that Manchester United have communicated to the Danish FA to manage his workload for their next two matches.
“It wouldn’t be so smart if they hadn’t coordinated it. I know they have. I know they’ve talked, so I think it’s up to them. I am available and ready for whatever the coach wants me to play,” Højlund explained.
When asked if he understands that Manchester United doesn’t want him to play the full match against both Switzerland and Faroe Islands, the Dane said: “It also requires the coach to want me to play 90 twice, but yes to some extent.”
“We have a long program and a lot of games on the other side of the international break, so one way or another I can understand that, but at the same time they shouldn’t decide how much Kasper will use me.”
The Manchester United star has scored 13 goals and registered two assists from 31 games this season.
