Royal Antwerp defender Toby Alderweireld has admitted to his delight at receiving a special message from former Tottenham teammate Harry Kane congratulating him on his Golden Shoe award.
The defender has been speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws regarding his move to Belgium and how everything appears to be working out there for him.
He returned to his homeland with Antwerp from Al-Duhail SC in July 2022 after a long and varied career that had seen him playing for Ajax, Atletico Madrid, Southampton and Tottenham as well.
It’s a move which has worked out perfectly well for him so far, with him recently awarded the prestigious Golden Shoe award in Belgium, an award for the best player in Belgium.
That’s big vindication for the 34-year-old, who has long made it clear he is a family man first and footballer afterwards and made the return to his homeland with Antwerp because of that fact.
That award saw him receive a special message from former Tottenham teammate Harry Kane when HLN went to speak to the defender this week, something he was delighted to receive.
“This means a lot to me,” he said.
“It’s nice when the greatest ones wish you congratulations – he is one of the best strikers in the world. We always had a good bond.
“The Golden Shoe” is the highlight of the past few months. This is fantastic for the club. We actually have to thank everyone who contributed to this.”
