Two days ago, De Telegraaf reported Ajax’s Edson Álvarez has an agreement in place with West Ham United. On Sunday, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg stated the Hammers have made the first official offer of £30m.
According to Voetbal International journalist Stef de Bont, the deal to take the midfielder to West Ham is expected to go through. His comments are relayed by Ajax Fanatics.
De Bont says the 25-year-old was expected to leave earlier this summer. David Moyes’ side came forward earlier in the window but ‘internal struggles’ at the London club had ‘weakened the interest’.
He adds West Ham are now back for the Mexico international and the deal could be quickly concluded.
“Now the Hammers have come back. Player and club have already agreed. Ajax had not yet received an official offer on Saturday morning. However, that seems only a matter of time. Álvarez is on his way to Ajax exit,” De Bont said.
The Europa Conference League winners have made the first offer, as reported by the Sky journalist.
Plettenberg took to Twitter late on Sunday to state Ajax have informed West Ham the fee they need after the latter tabled a £30m bid. He says both clubs ‘want to finalise’ the deal and an ‘agreement is expected now’ for around £33-34m.
Plettenberg says a ‘verbal agreement is done’, without specifying whether it’s between the two clubs or between Álvarez and West Ham.
