Tottenham are at risk of losing out on a healthy future percentage on Marcus Edwards as anger grows in Portugal about the midfielder’s attitude and him wasting his talent.
Record and A Bola cover the 26-year-old today and it does not make for pretty reading from either.
First Record report that Sporting Club de Portugal have had enough of Edwards. A series of incident with him, ‘indiscipline’ and ‘recurring cases of delays’ have proven to be the final straw.
They see him as a devaluing asset and a problem and want rid this month. They’re willing to sanction a loan deal for the midfielder and want to find a new destination for him. This is despite a €60m release clause in his current contract.
With his deal expiring in 2026 and no sign of a renewal, he’s a problem to solve. The hope is for a loan deal and a permanent exit in the summer at €8-10m.
What they have to take into account is Tottenham, though. After all, they hold 35% of the player’s rights. As such, they’ll be due that percentage of any transfer fee for him.
Either way, Sporting want rid. A Bola explain that while some players have been apologetic and shown a desire to right any wrongs at the club, the same cannot be said of Edwards.
In fact, his attitude is starting to grate on everybody. The fact he wasn’t even on the coach’s list for the league cup final defeat to Benfica speaks volumes.
The newspaper believes he ‘owes an apology’ to everyone but especially himself. They accuse him of a ‘commitment to wasting the talent’ he has.
That’s already seen him drive his Sporting career to the brink, with a low-cost unceremonious exit seemingly on the cards. An exit that will, unfortunately, likely see Tottenham miss out on a healthy percentage of transfer fee.
