Yet again a Spanish newspaper has an article saying Chelsea and Antonio Conte have won in the battle for Diego Costa.
Wednesday’s edition of Marca explains that despite Atletico Madrid being hugely keen, and ready to spend €60m, Chelsea are behaving like a brick wall.
Marca rightly point out that there’s absolutely nothing the Rojiblanco can do if a player’s owners refuse to sell him.
Without Costa going on some kind of strike, and right now that doesn’t appear likely, then there’s no real avenues left for Atletico.
It’s not the first time the Madrid press have admitted defeat on behalf of Atletico, but each previous time it hasn’t taken long before the idea was re-floated.
That may not simply be the fault of the press, it does appear that Atletico have genuinely been reluctant to accept no for an answer.
Perhaps the next time Atletico Madrid telephone Chelsea and plead to sign Diego Costa, Chelsea should bring up the subject of Antoine Griezmann.
