Having failed to find an exit door last summer despite making it clear he felt his time at Tottenham had come to an end, Hugo Lloris had to wait until January to get his move away from Spurs.
Ange Postecoglou swiftly replaced him with Guglielmo Vicario, who has been the number one between the sticks since the start of the campaign, and the French goalkeeper eventually moved to LAFC on a free.
He sat down for an interview with L’Equipe on Wednesday, where he discussed various topics, including his exit from Tottenham.
The goalkeeper is expecting to join his new teammates very soon, seeing as they are in between seasons for now, with the new campaign starting on February 24th.
About his choice of leaving Tottenham for the MLS, he said: “I always had the desire to go discover a new continent. After 19 years in the professional world, I can detach myself from Europe and allow myself to live this experience. There were many options, but I think the United States represent a lot in sport, even if football isn’t the major sport there.
“Nice were not part of my plans. I have a lot of affection for that club that means something important in my eyes, but I really wanted to try something else. I’m very happy with my choice of going to the MLS. I’m impatient of discovering my new environment.”
The now former Tottenham goalkeeper revealed he has no plans of representing France in the upcoming Olympic Games, leaving that privilege to a younger generation.
However, was there a need for him to suddenly come, he could think about it.
Lloris transferred to Tottenham from Lyon back in 2012, eventually going on to make 444 appearances for the Premier League side, conceding 508 goals and keeping 121 clean sheets.
