Il Mattino is a Naples based newspaper and therefore the place to look for news on the current Serie A leaders.
On Tuesday morning their major Napoli article revolves around Victor Osimhen and it starts by detailing Manchester United efforts to sign the striker.
According to the report, the Red Devils tried to get ahead of the pack by making a move in January, working to get ‘in pole position’. It’s not made explicitly clear whether that was to try and agree a deal ahead of the summer or complete a signing in the winter market, although one would assume it was the former.
Napoli weren’t interested, despite Manchester United initiating contact and putting the effort in, they didn’t even want to start negotiations, preferring to leave things for June.
Given they’re working to win Serie A, such a stance seems reasonable. They wouldn’t want their striker distracted by agreeing a deal to sell him.
Il Mattino say Napoli are getting prepared for a summer ‘auction’ and they want €150m for Osimhen. That’s sounds a lot, despite the player’s 14 goals and 4 assists, in 21 matches, so far this season.
