Following some rather dire performances at the back of late, it’s becoming more and more apparent that someone like Harry Maguire could leave Manchester United in the summer.

The former Leicester star has struggled almost from the off at Old Trafford, and the arrival of Erik ten Hag hasn’t changed that, who would ideally prefer to use Lisandro Martínez and Raphaël Varane.

That’s why seeing Manchester United linked with centre-backs makes a lot of sense, and L’Equipe believing they want Axel Disasi falls right into that category.

The French newspaper state ‘it is certain’ that the France international ‘will no longer wear’ the AS Monaco shirt next season, as the principality side ‘expect to lose’ him in the next transfer window.

While no price tag has been set, the belief is that a deal ‘could be concluded between €35-45m excluding bonuses’, and ‘there will be many candidates’ there waiting to sign him.

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are mentioned, as are Manchester United alongside a couple of other Premier League sides.

It’s said the Red Devils are ‘well placed’, and they state that his arrival and potential contribution both at the back and in attack (six goals this season) ‘would be beneficial’ in Erik ten Hag’s team.

Not only that, but he would be able to partner up with Varane, whom he knows from the France national team.

It’s worth remembering that Manchester United were said to have met the player’s entourage a month ago, which is probably why they are, as described by L’Equipe, ‘well placed’.
