Marca have decided to talk Real Madrid into more worry regarding their central defence situation. With Sergio Ramos seeing his contract expire at the end of this season, there’s been months of drama around the defender, with him being linked to big clubs around Europe.

Now it’s the turn of Raphael Varane, and just like with Ramos… Manchester United have been dragged into the picture.

The Frenchman is splashed across the front page of Tuesday’s Marca, and inside it’s explained there’s some concern over his contract situation. With a deal expiring in June 2022, pressure will build on Real Madrid should a renewal not be found in the coming months.

According to the report, there’s suspicions at Madrid that Varane is considering running down his contract and then leaving as a free agent, so the club will consider selling him in the summer if there’s no new deal agreed.

Manchester United are said to ‘want’ the defender, and Old Trafford is described as a ‘possible destination’ for what would be a big transfer.

PSG, Chelsea and Juventus are also linked and it very much feels like just throwing a group of club names in to build drama.

Real Madrid would be looking for €50m for the 26-year-old, although it would be assumed a renewal is the likeliest outcome.
