With Manchester United needing a new striker following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, a lot of names have been mentioned.

What has also been said is that the Red Devils aren’t overly flush with cash at this moment in time, meaning their options are somewhat limited.

That’s why big moves in January appear to be ruled out, and we now see names such as Olivier Giroud’s being mentioned.

The story originally came from England, but Foot Mercato have backed up this information on Tuesday in an article covering the initial reports.

They state that, according to their own information, Manchester United have indeed ‘tested the waters’ for the Milan striker, whose contract with the Serie A side expires in the summer.

Giroud, who was a star for France during the World Cup, knows the Premier League well and showed that he is still very capable in front of goal, which is why it makes sense to see Erik ten Hag turn to him as a potential short term solution.

Still, Foot Mercato make it clear that things ‘haven’t necessarily gone any further’, especially because Manchester United ‘want a loan’.

With his contract where it is right now, it seems unlikely that Milan would agree to this, and therefore, the Red Devils might need to look elsewhere.
