Manchester United look set to miss out on the signing of Christopher Nkunku, with him set to sign a new deal at RB Leipzig.
That’s according to Leipziger Volkszeitung, who say the Frenchman is close to a new deal that will include a €60m release clause for next season.
Nkunku has been heavily linked with a move away from Leipzig this summer after a season that saw him score 35 goals and register 19 assists in 50 games in all competitions.
Manchester United were believed to be interested, with several reports making it clear that Ralf Rangnick had recommended the forward to the club during his spell as their caretaker manager.
They were looking to cut a deal and take advantage of the player’s contract situation, with his current deal set to expire in 2024 and the German club keen to avoid him having one year left on his deal next summer.
However, it now appears they’ve instead managed to come to an agreement with Nkunku over a new contract.
The new deal will also include an exit clause that will become valid from 2023, with a figure set at €60m.
That will rule out a move this summer but open the door to one next year, with Manchester United, PSG, Bayern and Real Madrid all likely to register an interest at that point.
