Over the past few months, there have been a number of articles written about Manchester United’s interest in Kim Min-jae.
The South Korea international has been in great form with Napoli since arriving from Fenerbahçe in the summer, and that, combined with the fact there is a summer release clause in his contract only available to foreign clubs for two weeks, has led to rumours of an early exit.
This isn’t for January, let’s make it clear, but Manchester United will want to bolster their defence going forward, as Erik ten Hag continues to think of ways of improving his squad.
The latest on the situation comes from Corriere dello Sport, who claim both the Red Devils and their Merseyside rivals are ‘seriously considering exploiting the clause’ next summer.
It’s valid only from July 1st to July 15th, and that is why Kim is ‘one to like’ for big clubs in search of a new stalwart at the back.
Still, triggering the clause isn’t everything, as the will of the player then comes into play, where it’s made clear that he likes both Naples and Napoli ‘a lot’.
The clause itself ‘starts at €50m and goes up to €80m’, but the Serie A side would like to review ‘certain terms of the contract’ in hope of eliminating or ‘at least limit the dangers to a minimum’.
We’ll have to see, but this refuses to go away, and there’s usually not this much smoke without a fire these days.
