Manchester United have chosen their manager to replace Erik ten Hag, according to a claim this evening.
The information comes from France, where FootMercato writes that Gareth Southgate is the one wanted to take charge of the Red Devils next season.
The outlet writes that the Englishman is Manchester United’s priority for the position, as he’s ‘very popular internally’ and the management team are ‘convinced’ he’s the man who can rebuild the side.
FootMercato claims there’s no agreement between the parties for now, but the discussions are actually ‘going well’ and a deal could be found ‘quickly’.
Now even though Manchester United’s intention would be to shake hands in the coming weeks, Jim Ratcliff’s and Dave Brailsford’s wish is to only announce his arrival after Euro 2024, given that England are considered to have a good chance in the tournament.
The story claims that Southgate is believed to be the man who takes the Red Devils in the ‘right direction’ and be the ‘leader of the project’.
Manchester United are still to sack Erik ten Hag, but with the Dutchman not managing any improvement recently to show he deserves to continue in the job, his departure id a distinct possibility.
Why would a French website have this information? That’s a fair question, although INEOS do have connections in France.
