Victor Lindelöf’s eight-year spell at Manchester United is expected to come to an end after this season.
The Sweden international arrived at Old Trafford from Benfica in 2017 and has a contract expiring in June.
He’s on the front page of today’s Record as the Manchester United player wants to return to Benfica.
The centre-back spent five years at the Portuguese club before joining the Red Devils. He welcomes the possibility of returning to the Estádio da Luz as a free agent in the summer window.
Lindelöf hasn’t featured regularly for the Premier League club this season partly due to two injuries. He’s played over 400 minutes and only two minutes came in league since Ruben Amorim took charge in November.
Record state the 30-year-old frequently visits Portugal and feels the time is right for him to return to Benfica in the summer.
Bruno Lage, the Eagles manager, currently has Nicolás Otamendi, Tomás Araújo, António Silva and Adrian Bajrami as his four centre-backs.
The 37-year-old Argentine’s contract expires in June and he could join River Plate on a free transfer. Araújo and Silva’s situations needs to be clarified as they are on the agenda of other clubs for the next window.
Taking this into account, it could be a good option for Benfica to welcome Lindelöf back to the club.
