Eric Bailly to AS Roma is a transfer rumour which increasingly looks like it has something behind it.
Gazzetta dello Sport now bring some updates and it would appear the possibility is moving forward, with willingness from Manchester United and the Serie A side to reach a deal.
According to the report, Roma have approached the Old Trafford club to ask about a loan deal, which would be for one season and have a purchase option at the end. Gazzetta explain the possibility of an agreement exists, and the situation is now ‘concrete’.
Bailly has a contract with Manchester United until June 2024, with the option of a further year, so a loan deal is plausible even if the club would surely prefer a permanent sale.
The only issue now would be Bailly’s wages, with Roma not being willing to match what he currently earns in England. He would be able to take advantage of Italy’s Growth Decree, so that will allow him to pay less tax, and on top of that it’s expected that the defender should make an ‘effort’.
That means taking a pay cut.
