It seems that Manchester United and Newcastle United target Marcos Leonardo will turn into a big bargain.

That’s according to reports from Brazil, which now say that only €18m will be enough to sign the player from Santos.

The information comes from journalist Felipe Camargo and is relayed by Jorge Nicola. It’s claimed that this new price tag came from a deal with club president Andres Rueda.

Marcos Leonardo expected to leave last summer, but Santos blocked his exit. To stop him from rebelling against the club, the chief promised him his release clause would go from €100m to €18m.

Nicola names Manchester United and Newcastle as two of the interested sides, along with AS Roma, Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid.

The striker has been showing big potential in Brazil, and it’s been even weird to see reports claiming he should cost just between €15m and €20m. Now that low price is explained.

Earlier this week, the player’s agent confirmed that he’s ready to leave Santos in January. Now it remains to be seen whether it’s Manchester United, Newcastle or others who will win that race.
