Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri remains the ‘uncomfortable wild card‘ at Sevilla, with his loan deal yet to work out.
That’s according to ABC Sevilla, who cover the player today amid reports he could be set for his big chance under Quique Sanchez Flores this weekend.
The newspaper explains that the Manchester United loanee could be partnered alongside Boubakary Soumare for the clash against Real Sociedad.
They detail how injuries will leave Quique Sanchez Flores without his usual options and specifically Djibril Sow, leaving a hole in the midfield needing to be filled.
Hannibal has been raising his hand ‘incessantly’ asking for his opportunity, having so far played the role of ‘uncomfortable wild card’ since arriving on loan from Manchester United in January.
The Sevilla coach has been uninterested in the youngster, despite him being the signing that director of football Victor Orta was ‘most excited about’.
Injuries have limited his options, though, and so he could be forced to bring in the youngster and give him his chance.
That’s why he was spotted chatting individually with the player in training this week, something which has not gone unnoticed and sparked optimism in the club’s fanbase that they may see the youngster eventually.
And his latest comments have further fuelled that hope, with the Sevilla coach changing tactic and praising the Manchester United man in his pre-match press conference.
“The boy is reaching another level of understanding and is capable of playing at any time,” he said, relayed by Estadio Deportivo.
“There has been a landing that I think has been more mental than footballing, which is going from being in Manchester United, in the Premier League, to being in Sevilla. The Spanish LaLiga is very different.
“[He has joined] a team that is in a very difficult situation. At least in Manchester, it is always in the top five. Now in Sevilla we are among the last seven.”
