Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia could have joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on deadline day but elected to move to PSV Eindhoven instead.
That’s according to journalist Martijn Krabbendam, via Voetbal Verslaafd, who has revealed Wolves were also in the mix for the full-back this week.
Malacia completed a loan move to PSV Eindhoven yesterday, finally sealing an exit from Old Trafford after being linked with moves throughout the January transfer window.
The full back is not a part of Ruben Amorim’s plans at Manchester United and wanted to join a club where he could get regular playing time as he continues to recover from the long-term knee injury that saw him spend 500 days on the treatment table.
He had been linked with a move to Portugal but saw that fell through and that saw PSV move later in the window, with the Dutch transfer deadline a day later than the one in England, to secure his signature instead.
That move has not gone down particularly well at his former club Feyenoord, where many have questioned why he would choose to join one of their domestic rivals.
Krabbendam comments on that today, while also revealing that Malacia could have actually gone to Wolves instead.
“A lot of people in Rotterdam are angry because he’s going to PSV,” he said on Voetbal International’s live broadcast.
“But Feyenoord already has three left backs, and that guy is just choosing his own career. He could also go to Wolverhampton Wanderers, but if PSV comes… Then you’ll just go play for PSV, right? I understand the sentiment, but players reason differently.”
