On February 7th, Calciomercato.it reported Manchester United are in the mix to sign Palmeiras youngster Thalys.
Fast forward to April and Trivela provide the latest on the Red Devils’ efforts to try to sign the 19-year-old.
It’s claimed Manchester United have ‘made contact’, likely with Palmeiras, to understand the fee needed to carry out a possible negotiation for the striker.
The website states it’s not the first time a European club has asked about the youngster as an unnamed Italian side made an enquiry two months ago.
Thalys is yet to make his senior debut for the South American club but has been included in the squad for this year’s Copa Libertadores. He’s been part of the Palmeiras U20 squad since last year, and has managed eight goals and an assist from 26 games.
For now, Palmeiras don’t intend to cash in from his sale and are aware he’ll soon have a place in their first team.
Last October, the attacker signed a new contract until 2026 and Trivela state it includes a €40m release clause. Manchester United have initiated contact and it remains to be seen whether they are willing to pay the fee required to secure Thalys’ services in the summer.
Palmeiras have already agreed a deal with Real Madrid for Endrick to move to Spain in the summer.
PL Brasil now state Manchester United ‘regret’ having not taken necessary steps to sign Endrick, after their scouts followed him for a few years.
The report adds Erik ten Hag’s side want to avoid making the same mistake with Thalys, which is why they are advancing with a move to sign him.
