On January 31st, Calciomercato reported Manchester United pose the ‘greatest danger’ in the race for Atalanta star Giorgio Scalvini.

The centre-back has been a regular for the Serie A side and his fine displays have caught the attention of clubs in Italy and abroad.

A fresh report from Calciomercato states Manchester United belong to the latter category.

The Italy international’s contract lasts until 2028 but La Dea may find it difficult to retain him beyond this season.

Inter Milan and Napoli are the Serie A sides to have shown interest in the 20-year-old, but are held back by the fee requested by Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

From abroad, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund are tagged. It’s said these two clubs have already inquired with Atalanta, to find out if there’s room to negotiate a deal.

It’s not made clear if Erik ten Hag’s side and BVB made contact in the winter market or for a potential deal in the summer. Atalanta are demanding €40m and the report states they could think of considering selling Scalvini for that figure.

Manchester United have already made contact and are told the starting price needed to take the player away from the Italian club. Whether they’ll take further steps to sign him in the summer remains to be seen.
