Bruno Fernandes is finally getting some rest, with the Manchester United captain released from Portugal’s squad for the rest of the international break.
The midfielder isn’t expected in England before the end of the international break, and he’ll be taking some time off in his home country before he rejoins the Red Devils.
It seems that Bruno Fernandes’ mission with Portugal is done for now, following their 5-2 win over Sweden on Thursday night.
He’s been widely praised for his performance in that match, with A Bola leading the way.
The newspaper highlights the Manchester United player’s performance, contributing one goal and one assist, and makes it clear he’s now the national team’s big star. They even called him ‘the conductor’.
‘A unique and comprehensive vision, with decisions that are almost always the right ones and a rare ability to shoot from long range, make him the main provider for the more advanced pieces,” they say. “He led the national team at every level, increasingly showing himself to be Portugal’s great commander, he who had already been the most influential player in qualifying.’
Other Portuguese newspapers also praise Fernandes’ performance. Record calls him the ‘maestro’, and ‘not selfish at all’.
Fernandes already has already played 3385 minutes for Manchester United this season, so a rest during the international break is surely well deserved. Portugal will have high hopes for his performance at the Euros, but there are still a few important months with the Red Devils before then.
