Manchester United have ‘just asked for first-hand information’ on Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez after his impressive performance against Barcelona in midweek.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say the Argentine’s display has put him ‘back in fashion’ with the big clubs in Europe.

Martinez was the star of the show in the 3-3 draw with Barcelona in the Champions League this week, bagging a goal and an assist in a superb display.

It was a performance that did not go unnoticed and had the immediate effect of bringing the striker ‘back under the magnifying glass’ of big clubs, with PSG and Manchester United at the front of the queue.

They’ve taken their previous ‘courtship’ a step further, with both clubs having ‘just asked for first-hand information’ on the player.

At the moment there seems to be no room to distract the player from focusing on Inter and he wants to be faithful to them.

He’s sent a clear mandate to those in charge at Inter that the proposals currently being put on the table must be put to one side. That’s not stopped the phone from ringing, though.

Some of those calls have been from teammates, with international compatriot Lionel Messi calling to praise his performance.

His agent, Alejandro Camaño, has had his ‘work cut out for him’ dealing with the attention. There have been no ‘decisive calls’ or ‘figures or offers’ but simply interested explorations.

Manchester United have an ‘open channel’ to the player, taking information today that could be useful tomorrow as Erik ten Hag continues to overhaul his forward line.

They are likely to face competition from PSG, who have already been set on a collision course with Inter over Milan Skriniar and could reopen the conflict for Martinez. They could use Messi to their advantage given his relationship with the striker.

At the moment Martinez isn’t interested in a move and wants to focus on Inter and then Argentina at the World Cup, where his price could sky-rocket ahead of the January transfer window.
