Borussia Dortmund are worried about Manchester United’s interest in goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, so much so they’re trying to renew his deal to ward off interest.
That’s according to Blick, who say the German side are ‘doing everything’ in their power to keep Kobel at the club moving forwards.
The newspaper explains that Dortmund want to ‘prematurely extend’ the goalkeeper’s contract at the club, which is set to expire in 2026.
That would prove to be an expensive enterprise for the Bundesliga club but they know that Kobel is one of the ‘most sought-after’ goalkeepers currently on the market.
Manchester United, in particular, have ‘expressed a specific interest’ in the player as they eye up a potential long-term replacement for David de Gea.
That interest was first reported at the beginning of this month, with it explained that Manchester United were keen but Kobel wasn’t rushing into a departure.
Blick continue that, though, stating that if United are indeed in the game that further complicates things for Dortmund.
They wouldn’t be open to a sale if it wasn’t for a big price, of course, with €40-50m seen as a ‘realistic’ price for their current number one.
The plan for the time being, though, is to keep Kobel around for as long as possible and sign him up to a new deal to ward off any interest.
