Manchester United are trying to lower the price of signing Diogo Costa from Porto this summer, with the Portuguese side demanding his €75m release clause be met.
That’s according to A Bola, who say Manchester United have ‘intensified’ their interest the last few hours as they target a new number one.
According to the newspaper United are not willing to match Costa’s release clause at this moment in time, despite believing Costa has ‘enormous potential’ and wanting him this summer.
Porto chief Pinto da Costa is ‘not in the mood’ to give discounts or negotiate the price for his keeper and has already communicated to Jorge Mendes, the player’s agent, that a deal will only happen if Manchester United pay the €75m.
Manchester United have been following the Porto goalkeeper since the January transfer window and Erik ten Hag has given his approval to a possible deal taking place, having been ‘fascinated’ by the player’s performances.
The question now is how far Manchester United are willing to go in terms of a proposal. At the moment they are not willing to pay that €75m clause and Porto won’t sell for less than that.
The potential deal has been left in Jorge Mendes’ hands and it is up to him to ‘get a platform of understanding’ between the two parties if the player is to move this summer.
