Manchester United have reportedly ‘initiated negotiations’ for the signing of Lyon star Houssem Aouar.
That’s today reported by Spanish outlet El Chiringuito. They say the Red Devils are now speaking to the Ligue 1 club about the 24-year-old.
Aouar had been heavily linked to Real Betis in the past few months, and the story claims the La Liga club are still strong in the race.
They’re said to be ‘waiting’ for the player as he ‘prioritises’ joining them.
Now there’s something that could weigh on Manchester United’s side, and that’s a place in the Champions League, which is said to be ‘key’ for his decision.
Erik ten Hag’s side currently stand in fourth on the Premier League table, and that gives them a spot in the competition, while the Seville club are now fifth, which only takes them to the Europa League so far.
The only weird thing about this story is El Chiringuito claiming Manchester United are speaking to Lyon about the transfer.
That’s because Aouar’s contract with the French side expires in four months, and as a free agent, he’ll be able to move to whatever club he wants, with the French side not having a word in that.
