At the start of this month, Mundo Deportivo reported Manchester United are one of the clubs in the mix for Albacete Balompié’s Christian Kofane. They also reported the Red Devils have made contact to sign him in the summer window.

The 18-year-old joined the second division Spanish club in November and made his way into their first team earlier this year. He’s scored eight goals and registered one assist from 19 league games.

His performances have attracted interest from several clubs, including Manchester United and Atlético Madrid.

Friday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo reports the La Liga club were the first to formally make an approach for the striker. His ‘explosion’ at the Segunda División side has seen clubs across Europe take notice.

The newspaper states a few unnamed clubs even made bids, but Albacete Balompié didn’t entertain them and continue to maintain the same stance. Los Rojiblancos haven’t taken further steps and therefore, lost ground in the transfer race.

Kofane has a €5m release clause, which a few other clubs are willing to activate. Mundo immediately state the Cameroon U20 international’s future lies away from Spain where AS Monaco, Bayer Leverkusen and Manchester United are ‘in pole position’.

Albacete Balompié hope to have Kofane back on loan next season if a club were to trigger his clause.
