Manchester United are ‘in a hurry’ to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan and a bid is expected in the ‘next few hours’.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who cover the goalkeeper today and a potential move to Old Trafford.
The former reports that Manchester United were supposed to meet with Inter general manager Piero Ausilio in the Balearic Islands yesterday before Marcelo Brozovic’s indecision over a move to Saudi Arabia stopped that happening.
Alongside that missed meeting, Manchester United ‘took a little more time’ than had been expected to make the ‘decisive step’ and present an official offer for the player.
That is expected sooner rather than later, though, with Inter making it clear they would like a base offer of €50m plus bonuses.
While Manchester United are yet to make that there is still a confidence that they will, sooner rather than later. Indeed, there is ‘determination and haste’ at Old Trafford to get a deal done.
Their season officially starts on Tuesday, and they would like the Cameroonian in the door and ready to work with his new teammates at that point.
Erik ten Hag and Sporting Director David Harrison have ‘made their choice’ and want Onana to replace David De Gea, who looks likely to leave at this point.
Everything is in place for the transfer to happen and they simply need to present an offer to Inter Milan, with that expected to happen at some point this weekend.
Onana himself is keen on the move to the Premier League and the chance to reunite with former manager Erik ten Hag, who he worked alongside at Ajax earlier in his career.
He currently earns €3m a year with the Nerazzurri and will see that improved, but that is tied up into the bid from Manchester United and is one of the many pieces of the puzzle that need to come together. That, though, is expected to happen ‘in the next few hours’.
