Manchester United may have been handed their chance to sign Benfica star Gonçalo Ramos, with the striker increasingly frustrated over the club’s failure to give him a new contract.

That’s according to Record, who say that Manchester United remain in the background as the problem between the player and his club develops.

They explain that Benfica had promised to renew Ramos’ deal last year but that remains unfulfilled, leaving him ‘very disappointed’.

He ‘can not understand’ why the leaders of the Portuguese club have delayed the new deal being agreed, especially given his performances this season.

He is the current top scorer in the team with 24 goals and believes a renewal is ‘deserved’ as a result, particularly as they had already worked things out year.

He accepted that and it was key to him remaining at the club amid interest in his signature but the club are yet to move from ‘words to deeds’, leaving him on the contract he signed in 2020 when he first moved into the first team.

The striker was also assured by Rui Costa that he would also be given backdated pay from the start of the season but the campaign is coming to an end and there has been no change.

That gives his suitors, such as Manchester United, a chance to get their man and they and several other clubs are ‘starting to make calculations’ to sign the forward in the summer.

They could easily offer Ramos the wages he thinks he deserves and the lack of progress at Benfica would presumably speed things up.

At the moment Ramos is not pushing to leave and believes the situation will be sorted but he cannot understand why there has been a delay thus far.
