Manchester United’s pursuit of Benfica star Gonçalo Ramos is still pretty much alive in the Portuguese media.
The rumour is today brought back by newspaper Record, who actually bring a piece about the Eagles’ interest in Getafe striker Eres Inal.
Benfica’s chase for a centre-forward is said to be for the replacement of Gonçalo Ramos, who has ‘many interested sides’ in England. Manchester United are said to be ‘at the head’ of this competition for the Portuguese star.
It turns out that Record sound very sure that the striker is leaving the Lisbon side this summer, claiming that even though the Eagles managed to stop him from leaving in the past few transfer windows, they ‘shouldn’t manage to hold him’ this summer.
The striker has 26 goals and 12 assists for Benfica this season, and is leading them to the league title.
The heavy links between Manchester United and Ramos date back to the winter market, as the striker had a great start in the Portuguese League and did well in the World Cup too.
Nothing happened in the January window, and even though there have been fewer stories about the chase, they’re often pretty strong. Last month, for example, Record reported that the Red Devils had recently made an attempt to sign him from Benfica.
With the Eagles now willing to invest in a new striker, it seems that possibility remains on the table.
