Following so many reports about Chelsea having a deal to sign Kendry Paez from Independiente del Valle, the Ecuadorian club are no longer worried about talking about this transfer publicly.

The latest quotes on this move were give to El Canal Del Futbol (via ESPN), who this week interviewed club director Santiago Morales.

The official not only confirmed that Paez will soon be completing the transfer to Chelsea, but also revealed that Manchester United made an attempt to sign him.

“Now comes the legal issue. We can’t sign a contract because of Kendry’s age. The panorama has been clarifying in a better way, today I can say that Kendry, after two years, will go to Chelsea,” Santiago Morales told El Canal Del Futbol.

“We received some offers for him, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United and, well, Chelsea have been the team that showed the most interest. Officials from the team and the doctor came to carry out some tests.”

Kendry Paez has just turned 16-years-of-age this month, and that means he can only complete the move to Chelsea in the summer of 2025.

That’s becoming an increasing way of European clubs taking players from South American. Real Madrid did it with Vinicius to great success and have already agreed a deal for Endrick, Brazil’s latest wonder-kid.

Despite his early age, Paez has been a regular in the Ecuadorian first division, and has even made his debut in the Copa Libertadores. That not only shows the potential he has, but also helps him get enough points for a work permit in the Premier League, and the Blues wouldn’t face the same issues as with Andrey Santos, who was signed from Brazilian side Vasco da Gama in January.
