Borussia Dortmund are ‘not concerned’ with a move for Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho this summer, despite reports to the contrary.
That’s according to Ruhr Nachrichten, who say a return for the Englishman is unlikely to happen for a number of reasons.
They explain that despite recent reports stating that Sancho could be making a return to Germany and Dortmund this summer, there is no real basis for that to be the case.
According to them it’s ‘part of the business’ for agents to ‘explore all possible options’ for their players, with the hint that is what’s happening with the latest Sancho to Dortmund rumours, particularly as his agents, Elite Project Group, also represent Dortmund duo Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Julien Duranville.
That means there is an open contact between them and the Bundesliga club, which has, potentially, led to him suggesting a return for Sancho from Manchester United.
However, Dortmund aren’t interested because Sancho is a ‘difficult player’ for them to finance as his annual salary at Old Trafford is around €20m and he would have to make ‘big cuts’ to that. BVB would also need to ‘take over a large part’ of that sum in a loan deal, which is unfeasible.
It is also unclear whether Manchester United would sanction a loan deal given they need as big a squad as possible next year if they return to the Champions League as expected.
Furthermore, there is a ‘more urgent need’ in other positions for Dortmund. They need two full backs, a potential replacement for Bellingham and a replacement for Mahmoud Dahoud, whose contract is ending.
They are also not well stacked with options in central defence, with the club also looking for a long-term replacement for Mats Hummels and doubts over Soumaila Coulibaly.
Thus, they need to spend whatever money they have available on other positions and therefore wouldn’t prioritise bringing Sancho back.
As far as Ruhr Nachrichten are concerned that idea is very much one that won’t be happening.
