Manchester United are among the clubs in the picture to sign Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor Maciel Furtado, simply known as John.

That’s according to UOL, who state Manchester United have ‘entered the fight’ for the 28-year-old.

Galatasaray and Bahia have already shown interest in the stopper and Manchester United have now joined them.

The Red Devils recently made contact, without making it clear whether that was with his camp, Botafogo or both. The report states the Premier League side are considering making a move for the Brazilian.

Bahia had earlier asked about the goalkeeper and the price quoted [no figures mentioned] makes the deal difficult for them. Galatasaray have lost prominence because John isn’t keen on making a switch to Turkey.

The player has a contract until 2027 and could leave his current employer in the winter market. John has kept 22 clean sheets and conceded 44 goals from 55 games in all competitions this year.

Ruben Amorim currently has André Onana, Altay Bayındır and 38-year-old Tom Heaton as the three goalkeepers at his disposal. Manchester United may not make an approach for John unless one of their current stoppers were to leave Old Trafford.
