Manchester United have made an approach for Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García.

That’s according to Cope, and their title says ‘Manchester United tempt Joan García’.

The 23-year-old has been the standout player for the La Liga side this season and his fine displays have already aroused interest from several clubs.

Last summer, Arsenal saw their bid rejected and they continue to show interest in García for the upcoming window. Recent claims have also mentioned Real Madrid as an option for the stopper.

The interest in the Spain U23 international is growing and Manchester United have taken further steps to sign him.

El Partidazo on COPE journalist Juanma Castaño claims the Red Devils are the latest club to contact García’s entourage on Sunday to ‘make him an offer’.

André Onana’s mixed performances have seen Ruben Amorim’s side look for alternatives in the market.

The Spaniard has a €25m clause which will rise to €30m for last 15 days of the window. It increases by an additional €5m if he were to make his debut for Spain.

Espanyol sporting director Fran Garagarza states the player could change clubs in the next window and Sport have relayed his comments.

“There’s a lot of noise, but nothing is happening. There’s no firm movement like there was in the previous [summer] window. There may be movements because he’s a top-level goalkeeper, but we’re calm, and most importantly, the kid is very calm,” he said.
