With the German sports media reporting over the past week or so that Bayern Munich will listen to offers for Matthijs de Ligt, one thing was almost certain to happen.
Yes… the defender being linked with Manchester United.
There’s said to have been interest from the Red Devils for years, and yet it’s never felt like it was especially serious or that the Premier League club had actually made any effort to get him.
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg now reports Manchester United are closely monitoring the player’s situation. Erik ten Hag is said to be a big fan of the former Ajax man, and it may well be that which is driving the links.
Bayern Munich themselves are ready to sell for a ‘suitable offer’, although no figures are attached to that at this stage.
Manchester United are changing the way they approach transfers, with Ten Hag expected to have much less power on that front moving forward.
Sending a big chunk of money to Bayern Munich for De Ligt, with the German club seemingly happy to move on from him, feels like something the old Manchester United would do.

Erik ten Hag is still a big fan of de Ligt, and #MUFC is looking for a new center-back.
