Even though Vitor Roque’s transfer from Athletico Paranaense to Barcelona has been looking like a done deal for weeks, it seems Manchester United are still hopeful there may be a last minute twist.
Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo today features a headline saying the Camp Nou side are taking the ‘final step to close’ the youngster’s signing.
It’s claimed there’s already a ‘pre-agreement’ for Vitor Roque to move to Spain in a deal worth €35m plus €10m in bonuses, and only a final document is lacking.
Still, it’s claimed some ‘powerful clubs’ have been reaching out to the player’s entourage lately, and Manchester United are one of them.
Those clubs are trying to convince the player to change his opinion, but that won’t be easy, since he ‘does not think of something else’ but his move to Barcelona.
Barcelona’s disadvantage is that they don’t even know if they can register Vitor Roque right now. The club don’t have that salary cap available, and first need to get rid of some players to then include him in the squad. Otherwise, they’ll let him stay loaned at Athletico Paranaense.
That may be one of the reasons why Manchester United felt encouraged now, even though it seems too late at this stage.
