Ahead of Napoli facing Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League, Il Mattino have an article comparing Randal Kolo Muani and Victor Osimhen in which Manchester United are mentioned.

It’s no secret as to why the Red Devils would be featured in such a report, as Erik ten Hag’s side are known to want a new striker, with Wout Weghorst’s arrival in January being nothing more than a stop gap.

Manchester United have been keeping an eye on the Napoli star for quite some time now, and continue to be linked with a summer transfer.

It will be a time when they will have far more money than they did in January, and the idea of them spending upwards of €100m on a new goalscorer to take some of the burden off Marcus Rashford’s shoulders isn’t that crazy.

Osimhen is one of the more prolific goalscorers currently out there, and that’s why, according to Il Mattino, both Bayern Munich, who haven’t replaced Robert Lewandowski, and Manchester United ‘have already knocked’ on the door of Aurelio De Laurentiis, Napoli’s owner.

The club chief, however, ‘has postponed any discussion until the end of the season’, and while he will undoubtedly not want to sell his prized asset, there is also the knowledge that selling when the stock is at its highest is a wise way to do business.

As things stand, the Nigeria international ‘is worth around €140m’, and he is likely to be a part of the ‘waltz of strikers’ set to take place in the summer.

Whether Manchester United are willing to go that high remains to be seen, but if Erik ten Hag wants someone after all the good work he has put in this season in his first campaign in charge, it would be surprising if those above didn’t try and make a transfer happen.
