Manchester City ‘without success’ renewing player’s contract – Option to cash-in becomes likelier

Today’s Sport states the La Liga giants have identified the 21-year-old and Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies as two targets for the fullback position in the summer.

It’s claimed the Manchester City owned player has become Los Blancos ‘new objective’.

His deal at the Etihad lasts until 2025 and Pep Guardiola’s side have tried to extend the fullback’s contract, but ‘without success to date’.

Should he decide against signing a renewal, Sport explain that Manchester City could try to obtain ‘maximum benefits’ through his sale in the summer.

Operating mainly as a right wing-back and at times as a right-back, the Brazilian has starred for Girona, scoring two goals and registering seven assists from 26 games this season.

Marca also state Couto is an option for Carlo Ancelotti’s side to bolster their defence next season.

They further add it wouldn’t be an expensive operation for Real Madrid, taking his contract situation into account.

Marca explain that he’s valued at €10m, but Manchester City ‘hope to get something more’ than that, if the South American decides against signing a new deal at the Etihad.
