Even though Brighton & Hove Albion seem to be in advanced talks to sign Valentin Barco from Boca Juniors, it seems they could face competition from Manchester City.
On Tuesday, several reports from Argentina claimed the Seagulls have held meetings for the youngster, who’s been standing out in his first year playing for the Buenos Aires giants.
It turns out that a report from TyC Sports journalist Julio Pavoni says Manchester City also want him signed, as well as RB Leipzig.
The interest from Pep Guardiola’s side was then backed up by ESPN, with them claiming that the English champions want to trigger Barco’s release clause.
Just US$10m is needed to break his contract with Boca Juniors, and that has been the reason for a lot of anger from the club’s fans.
It turns out that Manchester City’s interest in Barco doesn’t seem to be new. Back in February 2022, the Argentine media had already been claiming that the club had been scouting the youngster.
It seems they’ve followed the player for a long time, and with Brighton’s move, that’s a trigger for them to make an effort as well.
