Palmeiras are expecting Manchester City to offer €30m this month to sign defender Vitor Reis in the January transfer window.

That’s according to TNT Sports Brasil and their journalist Rodrigo Fragoso, who say there is an expectation at the Brazilian club that Manchester ‘will open their coffers’ to get the young Brazilian.

They state that Manchester City are yet to make an official proposal for Reis but that is expected to change soon. Their intention, though, is to sign Reis this month and not wait until later in the year after the Super Club World Cup.

Reis has been heavily linked with a move to Europe for months after establishing himself as one of the rising stars of Brazilian football.

Palmeiras have consistently maintained that they would like to keep him until the summer, when they will compete in the expanded Club World Cup.

Manchester City intend to test that, though, as they look to strengthen Pep Guardiola’s squad following a disastrous first half of the season, at least in their books.

A report earlier today stated that they had already reached a verbal agreement to sign Reis and would follow that up by making a ‘tempting’ offer at some point today.

Fragoso now reports that offer will be €30m, around 188 million reals, and their intention is to get the transfer done this month.

Whether that is enough to convince Palmeiras, who have made it clear they will demand as big a sum as possible for their starlet for months, remains to be seen.
